‘Wag kaming subukan! Bersamin to punish bar passers who misbehave in June 1 oath taking
Supreme Court Associate Justice Lucas Bersamin has warned bar passers not to use the June 1 oath taking ceremony as venue to protest the disqualification of Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno.
“Any act that undermines the safe and orderly conduct of the oath-taking ceremonies or disturbs the due decorum therefor shall be punished with direct contempt of court, and shall be dealt with summarily,” said Bersamin in a report by Philippine Star.
The chair of the 2017 Bar examination added: “In this regard, the Supreme Court security officials and personnel are deputized to ensure the safe and orderly conduct of the oath taking, and their duly designated personnel are expressly authorized to prevent or reprimand any violations of the orderly conduct of the ceremonies.”
The SC voted 8-6 upholding the quo warranto petition kicking out Sereno for failing to submit her statements of assets, liabilities and net worth.
Most of the 1,724 Bar passers are believed to be against the use of the quo warranto petition in removing an impeachable officer like Sereno.
