Trillanes camp blasts Duterte’s newest tact to defend Proclamation 572
Lawyer Reynaldo Robles, counsel of embattled opposition Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV on Thursday blasted the Duterte administration’s so-called “evolving theory” in nullifying the lawmaker’s amnesty.
Robles was referring to the government’s latest tact of raising the supposed lapses of the previous administration in granting Trillanes amnesty, in justifying the validity of Proclamation No. 572.
He noted that Mr. Duterte may have abandoned his original position that Trillanes failed to meet the minimal requirements for his amnesty after the senator presented real evidence, like photos, videos, and media interviews to show that he applied for amnesty.
Among the lapses the President disclosed was the fact that it was former Defense secretary Voltaire Gazmin, not former president Benigno Aquino III, who signed the amnesty itself.
“Kahit yung Palasyo hindi alam kung ano ‘yung teorya nila. And it goes to show that afterthought na lang yun,” Robles said after emerging from a hearing before the Makati regional trial court branch 148.
“Nakita nila na there are videos and there are documentary evidence that the senator actually filed and made an admission of guilt. Kaya ngayon nila pinapalitan yung teorya nila,” he said.
