Get get awww..ay! SC permanently bars Sexbomb dancer’s ex-hubby to come near her
The Supreme Court (SC) has upheld with finality the permanent protection order issued by the Quezon City court in favor of former Sexbomb Girls member Sugar Mercado.
In a recent resolution, the SC 3rd Division affirmed its October 2 resolution denying the petition for review filed by Mercado’s estranged husband Kristofer Jay Go.
“No further pleadings, motions, letters or other communications shall be entertained in this case. Let entry of judgment be issued,” read the notice signed by Deputy Division Clerk of Court Misael Domingo Battung III.
A permanent protection order is issued when the accused abuser is found guilty of violence against women and children.
The PPO was first issued by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 86 and later upheld by the Court of Appeals (CA), prompting Go to go to the SC to no avail.
Gabriela Women’s Party provided Mercado with legal counsel since she first sought the court’s protection in 2015.
Mercado had experienced “physical, emotional, and economical abuse” from her husband since 2010. She said her husband repeatedly threatened her and her family that he would take away the custody of her children.
In a statement, Gabriela said: “This is a message of hope to women facing various forms of violence from their partners—that we can successfully secure legal remedies by partaking in the broad fight to end all forms of violence against women.”
Mercado is currently a host in GMA’s afternoon game show “Wowowin.”
