MSU Law Dean on Competition Law: It is toothless!
Mindanao State University College of Law Dean Alizedney Ditucalan shares his insights on the country’s Competition Law. The abogado specifically used the Philippine Aviation sector as an example.
Competition law is toothless in Ph aviation given its duopolistic characteristic. Strengthen the bill of rights of passengers. Airlines dont care passenger’s welfare. Worse, they abuse their market power, not against competitor, but with riding public. @bamaquino @CompetitionPH

Ditucalan said that the current law has a “duopolistic characteristic.” The abogado even noted a few suggestions to change the current landscape.
The abogado emphasized that the Philippines needs to strengthen the bill of rights of passengers. He complained about the indifference of airlines towards passengers’ welfare.
He also accused them of abusing their market power but not against their competitors. He wrote, “they abuse their market power, not against their competitor, but with riding public.”
