Midas ain’t on top: Find out who’s leading the race to succeed retiring SC justice Velasco
The Supreme Court (SC) has recommended four names who could fill a vacancy at the Supreme Court (SC) which will be opened with the retirement of Associate Justice Presbitero Velasco Jr. who retires this August 8.
The SC chose the four candidates out the 12 screened by the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC).
Leading the four is Court of Appeals (CA) Associate Justice Rosmari Carandang who received 10 votes.
Court Administrator Jose Midas Marquez follows her with eight votes.
The other two candidates are also from the CA, namely, Associate Justices Jose Reyes and Ramon Garcia, each of whom received six votes.
The JBC will soon be releasing a shortlist of the candidates which will be submitted to President Rodrigo Duterte for selection.
The 12 candidates were already subjected to public interview by the JBC last June 14.
