Kinaya ko! Bar passer shares how she survived UP Law
Ana Alexandra “Alex” Castro from the University of the Philippines College of Law is a woman with many hats. But now she’s about to wear the role of an attorney after passing the 2017 Bar examinations.
Castro shared how she battled a mental illness and other challenges brought by her busy schedule. Many times, she said, people have doubted her abilities to fulfill her dream of becoming a lawyer.
“Those are 3 of the many things people said about me before and during the bar review. Why wouldn’t they. I joined 11 tournaments and attended to a women’s organization while reviewing for the bar. I was training for and playing 2 different sports 5x a week, and recruiting women during my ‘free’ time. This entailed a 20-hr grind every single day ‘cause I had to study in the morning and the afternoon, and then work or train afterwards. I was also struggling with my manic depression at that time,” she shared on Facebook.
But she continued anyway—and now she’s about to sign her name to the roll of new attorneys.
“With that, let me congratulate and thank all of you, because this is YOUR success story, not mine. I’m living my dream, and you made that happen. So thank you. You know who you are. Thank you for believing in me. And for what it’s worth, I believe in you, too. I believe in your passion and in your dreams. Kayang kaya mo rin. Ikaw pa ba,” she added.
