JBC update: Palace to receive shortlist within the day
A source in the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) divulged that the shortlist of candidates for the soon-to-be-vacant Supreme Court seat due to the retirement of Associate Justice Presbitero Velasco Jr. would be transmitted to Malacañang anytime today.
Under the Constitution, the President has 90 days to fill up the post upon vacancy.
Those who made it in the shortlist were Court Administrator Jose Midas Marquez, and Court of Appeals Justices Jose Reyes, Rosmari Carandang, Ramon Garcia, Apolinario Bruselas, Ramon Hernando, Amy Lazaro-Javier, and former Ateneo College of Law Dean Cesar Villanueva.
The JBC is constitutionally mandated to screen applicants to the Judiciary and top Ombudsman positions.
