Guevarra: Arming prosecutors just one way, police should also do their part
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Sunday disclosed that he would let state prosecutors decide, especially those who are facing threats, whether they should arm themselves or not.
But he insisted that arming state prosecutors is just one way to address the problem saying, the police should also do their part to protect prosecutors as part of the government’s campaign against criminality.
“Arming the prosecutors is of course merely in addition to heightened police law enforcement activities. We expect the police vigorously help our prosecutors in the government’s campaign against criminality
but the police will not always be there at the time of an attack or ambush,” Guevarra said.
Earlier, Guevarra said he support prosecutors, especially those who are handling high-profile and sensitive cases and have death threats,
arming themselves for self-defense but said the DOJ has no funds to procure firearms for their use.
