Dutertes’ ex-abogados insists: We’ll be independent if chosen as Ombudsman
Lawyer Edna Herrera-Batacan on Wednesday claimed that she will act independently if appointed as Ombudsman.
Appearing before the Judicial and Bar Council, Batacan, a former lawyer of President Duterte when he was Davao mayor, disclosed the Chief Executive will not interfere in her work if appointed to replace Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales.
“As a lawyer, I think he would not be interfering in my job because I know him, I know him personally. Hindi po naman siya makikialam sa trabaho, alam niya ang trabaho ng abogado,” Batacan said during the JBC public panel interview.
Meanwhile, lawyer Rainier Madrid, who was the lawyer of former Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte during the Senate probe on the controversial P6.4-billion shabu shipment from China, pledged the same independence from the First Family
When asked if his his connection with Paolo would improve his chances of being appointed, Madrid said: “I never asked him. My application, I made it on my own.”
