Benguet jail guard gets two life terms for selling shabu
l court here slapped a senior jail officer in Benguet with two life terms after he was found guilty of selling shabu and possessing some more.
The Baguio City Regional Trial Court (RTC) has slapped a Benguet district jail guard with two life sentences for selling shabu.
In a recent 21-page decision, Branch 3 Presiding Judge Emmanuel Cacho Rasing found Senior Jail Officer 1 (SJO1) Donald Tauli Kelly Jr. guilty of illegal possession and sale of shabu.
Kelly, who worked in the Itogon district jail, was arrested in a September 3, 2017 buybust operation during which he tried to sell 1.43 grams of shabu to a government drug enforcer.
The court rejected Kelly’s claim that he was a victim of instigation “What occurred was an entrapment and not instigation,” it said.
Kelly’s agreement to purchase the shabu for reselling “evidently shows that the accused is actively engaged in the illicit drug trade.” the court said.
