Angara’s grandson sends tribute to late Senate president
“If clothes make the man, laws make the solon, for his product describes the lawmaker.” – Nick Joaquin
This is how Patrick Alexis Angara, grandson of late Senate president Edgardo Angara, chose to begin his tribute to his grandfather who passed away last Sunday, May 13.
“He was known as Mr. Education in the Senate for pursuing education reform and providing benefits for teachers and scholarships for deserving students such as the Free High School Act, the Creation of CHED and TESDA, raising public school teacher’s salary and benefits. He also served as UP President,” wrote Patrick.
“A farmer by heart, he pursued the passage of laws and programs to help our farmers and develop agri-business. His time as Secretary of Agriculture was considered as one of the productive periods of the sector. He implemented in an efficient manner the Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization Act (which he authored),” he added.
For Patrick, Senator Ed was a silent worker who did what he could to provide opportunities for Filipinos. A lawyer through and through, the senator authored laws that aimed to enrich the lives of his constituents, Patrick said.
The legal world surely lost a treasured member!
