Aegis Juris suspects transferred to cramped Manila jail
The National Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday transferred 10 Aegis Juris fraternity officers and members who were implicated in the hazing death of law freshman Horacio “Atio” Castillo III to the Manila City Jail.
This was in compliance to a Manila court’s order to transfer them to the Manila City Jail citing the Revised Criminal Procedure as basis.
Transferred were Arvin A. Balag, Mhin Wei Chan, Axel Munro Hipe, Oliver John Audrey Onofre, Joshua Joriel Macabali, Ralph Trangia, Robin Ramos, Jose Miguel Salamat, Danielle Hans Matthew and Marcelino Bagtang.
They were transferred after Branch 20 Judge Marivic Balisi-Umali junked their urgent ex parte motion asking that they remain at the NBI, citing their safety.
The rules said an arrested person should be delivered to the nearest police station or jail.
“The NBI detention center is neither a police station nor a jail,” Umali said in her order.
