SC sacks CamSur clerk of court for pocketing funds to make ends meet after hubby’s death
The Supreme Court (SC) has dismissed the clerk of court of the Goa, Camarines Sur, Municipal Trial Court (MTC) over P246,118 in fund shortages.
In a recent 13-page en banc decision, the SC held Eden Favorito guilty of grave misconduct, dishonesty and gross neglect of duty. It also directed the Legal Office of the Office of the Court Administrator (OCA) to file the appropriate criminal charges against her.
Favorito admitted to failing to remit the fees collected by the court and submit the required monthly reports to account for the court funds. She was even found to have tampered with the receipts, and she admitted using the money to make ends meet for her family after the death of her husband.
“While We commiserate with the plight of the respondent, being a single parent with three children dependent on her, We cannot simply disregard her misconduct. Even the restitution of the shortages will not obliterate her liability,” read the per curiam decision.
