Deja Vu? Davide, Pimentel meet again in Senate court after 17 years
History repeats itself, as the old saying goes.
For former Chief Justice Hilario Davide Jr. and former Senate President Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel, it took only 17 years to experience again the political chaos that is the Senate court.
Last Wednesday, the two legal luminaries attended the Senate hearing on the proposed Charter change. Davide expressed that a shift to a federal form of government would be a “leap to hell”, while Pimentel said that some parts of the Constitution do not need revision.
This moment takes us back to January 17, 2001, where the aborted impeachment trial against former President Joseph Estrada led to the Second EDSA Revolution (EDSA II), a four-day political protest against Estrada.
Deja vu na ba?
