Aguirre orders NBI to probe renewed human trafficking activities
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Wednesday has been directed to conduct an investigation into the recent spate of intercepted human trafficking attempts in a bid to identify and prosecute the syndicate behind these activities.
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II issued the order following the arrest of five foreign nationals allegedly involved in human smuggling.
“I will direct the National Bureau of Investigation, working hand in hand with the Bureau of Immigration, to further investigate the matter,” Aguirre said in a statement.
Intercepted by Immigration personnel include Somalian national Mohamoud Aden Abdinah, Chinese nationals Chen Hul Lin, Hua Juan Chen and Iranian national Shehni Dashtegoli Reza.
All of them were bound for United Kingdom during the ASEAN Summit.
Aguirre said the human traffickers timed their activity at the time when then airports are busy with the influx of international guests.
